Tobias asks how he can collect money from a man he does not know, and Tobit gives him the receipt and tells him to find a companion for the journey. Tobias meets Raphael without knowing he is an angel; questioned by Tobit, the stranger calls himself Azarias, son of Ananias the great, a kinsman, and agrees to go for a drachma a day. The two set out with the young man's dog, while Anna weeps that no money is worth her son, and Tobit comforts her that a good angel will keep him company.
