Joshua, called here Jesus the son of Nave, successor of Moses, was valiant in war: the sun went back at his word, one day was as long as two, and hailstones fell on the enemy at Beth-horon. With Caleb he withstood the murmuring people, and of six hundred thousand footmen they alone entered the land of milk and honey. The faithful judges are blessed. Then comes Samuel, beloved of the Lord, who established a kingdom and anointed princes, called on God while offering a sucking lamb, could say he had taken no man's shoe, and prophesied even after his death.
