The chapter is about rulers and pride. As the ruler of a city is, so are all who dwell in it, and the power of the earth is in the Lord's hand. Pride is hateful before God and man, and because of injustice a kingdom passes from one people to another. 'Why is earth and ashes proud?' A king today dies tomorrow and inherits worms. Pride begins when a man departs from his Maker, and the Lord has cast down proud princes and set up the meek in their place. Whether rich, noble or poor, man's true glory is the fear of the Lord.
