The teacher turns to the family. Whoever honours his father makes atonement for his sins, and whoever honours his mother lays up treasure. Children must honour both in word and deed, help a father in his old age and be patient 'if his understanding fail'; such kindness is not forgotten, and sins melt 'as the ice in the fair warm weather.' The second half commends meekness: the greater you are, the more humble yourself. Do not search out things too hard for you, beware a stubborn heart, and remember that 'alms maketh an atonement for sins.'
