'Forgive thy neighbour the hurt that he hath done unto thee, so shall thy sins also be forgiven when thou prayest.' How can one who bears hatred ask pardon from the Lord? Remember your end and let enmity cease. Strife burns according to its fuel: blow on a spark and it burns, spit on it and it goes out, and both come from your mouth. The rest warns against the backbiting tongue, which has driven men from nation to nation and pulled down strong cities: 'the stroke of the tongue breaketh the bones.' Make a door and a bar for your mouth.
