'Blessed is the man that hath a virtuous wife, for the number of his days shall be double.' The good wife, a gift of the Lord who shines in her ordered house like the rising sun, is set against the jealous or drunken wife, who is like a scorpion in the hand. A father must keep a shameless daughter in straitly. The KJV then gives verses found only in some Greek manuscripts: keep the flower of your age, sow your own field, and a godly woman is given to him who fears the Lord. The chapter ends with three griefs and a merchant who hardly keeps from sin.
