Antiochus, son of Demetrius, writes from the isles of the sea to Simon, confirming his privileges and allowing him to coin money. Landing in the 174th year, he shuts Tryphon up in Dora. Numenius returns from Rome with letters from the consul Lucius telling kings and countries to leave the Jews in peace and hand fugitives over to Simon. But once Tryphon is trapped, Antiochus refuses Simon's help and sends Athenobius to demand Joppa, Gazera and the tower, or a thousand talents; Simon answers that he holds 'the inheritance of our fathers' and offers a hundred. Tryphon escapes by ship, and Cendebeus is sent to harass Judea from Cedron.
