Good Friday Feast
The day of the crucifixion at Golgotha, outside Jerusalem. John 19:30 records the last word - it is finished - and Isaiah 53:5 is read beside it. The altars are stripped, and the colour is red: this is the Passion, not the penitence of Lent.

Golgotha, meaning "Place of the Skull," is the hill outside Jerusalem where Jesus was crucified. Also called Calvary, it was the site of the most significant event in Christian history - the death of Jesus Christ for the sins of humanity. Today, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre marks the traditional site where Jesus was crucified and buried.

Jerusalem is the holiest city in Judaism and Christianity, central to the biblical narrative. King David captured it and made it his capital, and his son Solomon built the First Temple there. It was the site of Jesus' crucifixion, resurrection, and the birth of the Christian church at Pentecost. The city has been destroyed and rebuilt multiple times throughout history.
