Sirach 14 - Summary

Summary

Read Sirach Chapter 14 Summary

Two blessings open the chapter: on the man who has not slipped with his mouth, and on him whose conscience does not condemn him. The miser is then mocked: he gathers for others who will squander it, and his wicked eye begrudges even his own bread. 'According to thy ability do good to thyself', and to your friend before you die, for there are no dainties in the grave, and all flesh waxes old as a garment, falling and growing like leaves on a tree. The closing lines bless the man who pursues wisdom like a hunter and pitches his tent by her house.
