Holofernes mocks Achior as a hireling of Ammon and asks, 'who is God but Nabuchodonosor?' He swears that Israel's mountains will be drunk with blood, and that Achior will fall among their slain when the army comes. His servants take Achior toward Bethulia; driven off by slingers, they bind him at the foot of the hill and leave him there. The Israelites free him and bring him before the governors, Ozias son of Micha, Chabris and Charmis, and tells them all that Holofernes said. The people fall down and pray, 'behold their pride', and they call on God all night.

The Israelites were enslaved in Egypt for 400 years before God delivered them through Moses in the Exodus. Jesus' family fled to Egypt to escape King Herod, fulfilling the prophecy "Out of Egypt I called my son."
