Judith sings a new song: Assur came from the north with ten thousands, threatening to burn and kill, 'but the Almighty Lord hath disappointed them by the hand of a woman'. No giant struck him down; her sandals ravished his eyes and the fauchion passed through his neck. He who fears the Lord is greater than any sacrifice. In Jerusalem the people offer burnt offerings, and Judith dedicates Holofernes' goods to the Lord. She returns to Bethulia, never remarries, frees her maid and dies at a hundred and five, and no one troubles Israel for a long time after.
