Local governors give the Jews no rest. The men of Joppa drown two hundred Jews in boats; Judas burns their haven by night, then the ships of Jamnia. He makes peace with Arabian nomads, takes Caspis as Joshua took Jericho, and pursues Timotheus, who is captured and freed to save Jewish hostages. After Pentecost he defeats Gorgias. At Odollam, burying the fallen, his men find things consecrated to the idols of Jamnia under their coats. Judas sends two thousand drachms to Jerusalem for a sin offering, 'mindful of the resurrection': otherwise 'it had been superfluous and vain to pray for the dead'.

Arabia was the large peninsula east of the Red Sea. Paul went to Arabia after his conversion, possibly for a time of reflection and preparation. Mount Sinai is said to be in Arabia. The Queen of Sheba came from Arabia to hear Solomon's wisdom.

Jericho, one of the oldest cities in the world, was the first Canaanite city conquered by the Israelites after crossing the Jordan River. Its walls famously fell after the Israelites marched around it for seven days as commanded by God through Joshua. Jesus later passed through Jericho, healing blind Bartimaeus and dining with the tax collector Zacchaeus.
